How to Add Live Captions or Subtitles In vMix

vMix is a live production switcher a lot of churches, conferences, and events already run. Cameras, graphics, and the stream all live in one app. Captions do not. There is no speech-to-text in vMix, and no built-in way to generate live captions or subtitles.

The easiest way to add captions or subtitles over your video stream is to use LiveSunday. It's a live captioning and translation software for churches and events. It listens to your audio, transcribes as people talk, and can translate into 120+ languages. The output is a transparent web overlay. You add it in vMix as a Browser input.

How It Works

1. Create a LiveSunday account, setup up your source language and audio source. LiveSunday picks up audio from the computer (mic, mixer feed, or streaming software) and starts transcribing.
2. Create a caption link. In the LiveSunday dashboard, go to Captions → Create caption link, pick the language, and set the style (font, size, position, color). Save, and you get an overlay URL like https://livesunday.ai/overlay/abc123. That page is transparent. Only the caption text shows.
3. Add it to vMix as a Browser input.
   1. In vMix, click Add Input → Browser.
   2. Name it something you'll recognize, like LiveSunday – English.
   3. Paste the overlay URL into the URL field.
   4. Set Width and Height to match your output (e.g. 1920×1080).
   5. Click OK.

Layer it over your program. Put the Browser input in MultiView or Mix above cameras and slides. The overlay has no background, so only the caption text appears once you start speaking.

Click Start stream in the LiveSunday dashboard. Captions show in the vMix preview almost instantly.

Translated Captions

If you want to go a step further, LiveSunday can also translate your captions for multilingual audiences.

Follow the same steps as before, but set your target language to a different language when creating the caption link. Name it something like "LiveSunday - Spanish".
