Send audio from a mixer or virtual cable

Get a clean feed into the console from your sound desk, or route audio from another app on the same computer with BlackHole or VB-Audio Cable.

The console listens to one audio input at a time. It can be a physical input, like a USB cable from your mixer, or a virtual one that carries sound from another app on the same computer. Both show up in the same list.

For the basics of picking a source, see Set up your audio input.

Send audio from a mixer

  1. Connect the mixer to the console computer. Use the mixer's USB output, or run an aux or matrix send into a USB audio interface.
  2. Build the mix for that output from the speaker's microphone. Keep music and room microphones low or out. LiveSunday captions everything it hears, including song lyrics.
  3. Open Stream Controls and choose the mixer or interface under Audio Input. It shows under Microphones, usually by its brand name.
  4. Click Test audio and talk into the speaker's microphone to check the level. See Check your audio levels.

If you plug the device in while the dashboard is open, reload the page so it shows up in the list.

Use a separate send

Don't feed LiveSunday from the main room mix. The main mix changes with the band and the room. A separate aux or matrix send lets you set a steady level for the speaker only.

Use a virtual audio cable

A virtual audio cable is a free driver that adds a fake input and output to your computer. Sound an app sends to the cable's output comes back out as an input that LiveSunday can listen to.

Use one when the audio you want plays in a desktop app on the console computer. If it plays in a browser tab, you don't need a cable. Choose Another browser tab instead.

On a Mac with BlackHole

  1. Install BlackHole from its developer's website. The 2-channel version is enough.
  2. In the app that plays the audio, set its audio output to BlackHole 2ch.
  3. In LiveSunday, reload the dashboard and choose BlackHole 2ch under Audio Input.

Sound sent to BlackHole doesn't play through your speakers. To hear it too, create a Multi-Output Device in the Mac's Audio MIDI Setup app that includes both BlackHole and your speakers or headphones. Then send the app's output there.

On Windows with VB-Audio Virtual Cable

  1. Install VB-Audio Virtual Cable from VB-Audio's website and restart the computer if the installer asks.
  2. In the app that plays the audio, set its output to CABLE Input.
  3. In LiveSunday, reload the dashboard and choose CABLE Output under Audio Input.

Sound sent to the cable doesn't play through your speakers. To hear it too, turn on Listen to this device for CABLE Output in the Windows sound settings.

Check the signal

Whichever path you use, click Test audio before the service and watch the level move. Then start a short test live session and read the captions. If the meter stays flat, the app is sending its sound somewhere else, or the console has a different input selected.
