Caption styling

Set the font, colors and layout of the captions on your livestream and on a room display.

You can style captions in two places. Video Captions controls the overlay you add to OBS, ProPresenter or other streaming software. Full Screen Captions on the Caption Links page controls the page you show on a TV or projector.

The phone page your listeners open has no style settings. Listeners pick light or dark themselves.

Overlay captions

Open Video Captions in your dashboard and click New Link. If you have no links yet, the button says Create Caption Link. The Live Preview on the right shows each change as you make it.

General. Give the link a Label, such as "Main stream, Spanish". Then pick the Language. Choose the speaker's language or one of the translation languages you turned on. A language your organization doesn't translate into shows no captions.

Typography. Pick a Font Family from 12 fonts, a Font Size from 12 to 72 pixels and a Weight from Regular to Extra Bold. You can also change Line Height, Letter Spacing and Text Transform, which sets the text to all capitals or all lowercase.

Colors. Set the Text Color and the Background Color behind the text, with its opacity. Set the opacity to 0 for text with no box behind it. Turn on Text Shadow to make light text easier to read over a busy picture.

Layout. Choose the Text Alignment, then put the captions at the top, center or bottom of the screen with Caption Position. Max Width sets how much of the screen width the captions can use. Border Radius rounds the corners of the background box, and Padding adds space around the text.

Click Save Link when you're done. Each saved link has its own overlay URL. Click Copy URL on its card to copy it.

To change a link later, click the edit button on its card and then Update Link. The overlay URL stays the same, so you don't have to change anything in your streaming software. Deleting a link stops its overlay URL from working.

Make one link for each language you want on screen. To add the overlay to your streaming software, see Integrate captions.

Full-screen captions

On Caption Links, find Full Screen Captions and click Configure. You can set:

  • Theme. Dark, Light or Transparent.
  • Font size. S, M, L or XL.
  • Language. The speaker's language or a translation language.
  • Font weight. Light, Normal or Bold.

The preview at the top of the dialog shows how the text will look. Click Copy link and open it on the computer connected to the screen, or click Open to try it in a new tab.

These settings live in the link itself. To change them, configure a new link and open it on the display again. See Share your link and QR code.
