Audio output

Play spoken translation from your computer into an FM transmitter, a mixer or a speaker.

Audio output plays the spoken translation on the computer running your console. Connect that computer to an FM transmitter, a mixer or a speaker, and people can hear the translation without opening the listener page on a phone.

The Audio output card is on Stream Controls, both before and during a live session. It only shows when your plan includes spoken translation and you've added at least one translation language. Spoken translation is part of the Advanced plan and the free trial.

Connect your equipment

Plug the transmitter, mixer or speaker into the computer's headphone jack, or into a USB audio adapter. Do this before you open Stream Controls if you can. If you plug it in later, it still appears in the list without a reload.

Each language needs its own device. Most computers have one headphone jack, so a second language needs something like a USB audio adapter.

Turn on a language

  1. On Stream Controls, find the language in the Audio output card.
  2. Pick the device from the dropdown.
  3. Turn on the switch.

You'll see Connecting… next to the language for a moment. The switch works before a live session starts, so you can set everything up ahead of time. You'll hear the voice once the session is live and translated captions start.

Each language has its own device and switch. If you send two languages to the same device, they play over each other.

The voice is the one you chose in the Voice setting. See Spoken translation and voices.

Which browser to use

Use Chrome or Edge. Other browsers don't have the device dropdown and play everything on the computer's default device.

What LiveSunday remembers

LiveSunday saves the device for each language in this browser, on this computer. Another computer starts with System default.

The switches aren't saved. They stay on while you move around the dashboard and between live sessions, but they turn off when you reload or close the page. Check them before each service.

Use a second computer

Any Owner or Operator in your organization can turn on audio output from their own console, and it doesn't affect the live session. One computer can run the microphone while another, in the sound booth, feeds the transmitter.

Avoid problems in the room

  • Keep speakers away from the microphone. If the microphone picks up the translated voice, LiveSunday will caption it too.
  • Pick the device by name instead of System default when you can. System default also carries any other sound the computer makes, such as notifications.
  • Keep the dashboard open on that computer for the whole service. The audio stops when you close it.

If something goes wrong

The dropdown shows Output 1, Output 2. The browser hides device names until you allow microphone access. See Allow microphone access.

Output device not found. The saved device is unplugged or the browser refused it, so the audio plays on the default device. Plug it back in, then pick it again from the dropdown.

Couldn't switch the output device. The browser refused the device you picked. Check that it's connected and try again.

Couldn't play voice translation. LiveSunday couldn't turn the audio on, and the switch turns itself off. Turn it on again. If the message says voice translation isn't included in this plan, an Owner can change the plan in Billing.

The switch is on but there's no sound. Check that a live session is running and that translated captions are appearing. Then check the volume on the computer and on the device.

If the connection drops, the audio goes quiet and comes back on its own once the console reconnects.
